“[Alice] was delighted to find that her neck would bend about easily in any direction, like a serpent. She had just succeeded in curving it down into a graceful zigzag, and was going to dive in.” In the novel Alice in Wonderland, the little girl eats a strange mushroom that allows her to grows taller in ways she never intended. Strange forms are intriguing. Nothing makes sense — yet it is exactly what is seems.
The stretch ring is the imaginative solution to creating a ring using only rabbits. The form was inspired by the sleek curves of contemporary architecture. Forms, however intriguing, do not always have meaning. So while explicit formalism and alien structures flood the market, I find that the rabbit justifies its strange form. The rabbit is relatable and creates an opportunity for meaning and expression. The rabbit was meticulously crafted using digital sculpting and handmade sketches. The ring is made using parametric computer algorithms, which allows the design to adapt across all ring sizes without the rabbit becoming bigger.
